What is Carbon Footprints

Do you remember studying the topic 'Carbon Footprints' in your eighth or ninth grade? I'm sure everyone would have heard about this at least once in their life. So what exactly is it? Carbon Footprints are the comprehensive amount of greenhouse gas that is caused solely due to our(human) actions.

A simple explanation of this would be that the amount of carbon dioxide (Co2) produced and released into aerospace as a result of the actions brought about by an individual or an organization or a community.

For instance, imagine this: almost every single thing you do releases some mass of carbon into the aerospace, but the amount of mass released is based on a vast number of factors.
With that fact, we can decrease the carbon footprint with our course of actions

Why is it important?

Climatic change:

Climate change is the ensuing effect of the release of large carbon footprints. Greenhouse gases, regardless of being human-produced or natural, contribute widely to the warming of the planet. Researches show that carbon dioxide emissions have remarkably increased by 31 percent since 1970. However, the most shocking revelation is that carbon emissions have increased three times more swiftly in the current time than in the past.

Depletion of Resources:

Large carbon footprints deplete resources on massive and minute scales, starting from a country’s deforestation pursuits to one home’s growing utilization of air conditioning. The more those with large consumption of carbon footprints use resources, the more greenhouse gases increase and prompt additional climate change.

The Environmental Protection Agency put forward that consideration of contrast energy supplies and conservation of present ones will be vital to balance energy demand. We can reduce the carbon dioxide emissions as great as possible and counterbalance the remaining emissions by, for instance, growing tree etc..., will help in reducing the negative effects of carbon footprints

How can this be prevented?

Although it seems to be an extremely difficult task to reduce the average carbon emission consumption, if an individual start to consider this and reduces his/her utilization of carbon, the result would be phenomenal. Since the average carbon footprint of an individual in India is evaluated to approximately 1.32 tons per year.

So the real question is, how can you prevent this? Well, there are plenty of ways in which an individual can diminish the rate of carbon emission.

Some of which include:

1.Unplug your device when not in use:

Electronic devices deplete energy when they are plugged in, despite being switched off. Researches show that these phantom energy depletes drain 20 percent of electricity every day. So the next time you see any device being plugged in when they are not in use, unplug them!

2. Limit your driving:

Avoid driving cars or bikes as much as possible. Instead, choose public transport or walk(if it's a walkable distance). Public transportation can save up to 37 million tons of carbon emissions per year.

3.Green Computing:

Green computing is the use of eco-friendly resources in engineering or designing computers. Thus, eliminating the computing devices which impact the environment. Therefore, the next time you buy any computing device, check for its energy star to know if it is eco-friendly.

4. Use built-in software applications:

Using online resources to edit your documents, creating a process flow, or just preparing a presentation can consume a substantial amount of carbon emission. Rather, make use of the built-in software or applications present in your computer to get your work done.

5.Plant a tree:

Regardless of living in an independent house or an apartment, grow some plants on your porch or your kitchen or on any place you deem right. This is one of the most important and easiest ways to reduce carbon emission as it is common knowledge that plants absorb carbon dioxide.

Conclusion:

Change always comes from within, and anyone can make these simple changes that will, in turn, change the whole world. If we, as an individual start to make an effort towards no more excessive carbon emissions then, the carbon footprints would be reduced exceedingly.
